For decades societies have been concerned about climate change, and in recent years it has sparked a debate as to whether the earth is warming due to causes by humans or through a natural progression. There are scientists on both sides of the debate, but one thing that they can agree on is that the earth is in fact warming. Studies have indicated a rise in the carbon dioxide levels (CO2) in the earth’s atmosphere that can be attributed to the what is known as the greenhouse affect (Simon, Reece, Dickey, 2007). Natural occurring gases such as carbon dioxide, methane, and water vapor act as source for trapping heat into the atmosphere, however CFC’s or chlorofluorocarbons are man made synthetics (Simon et al., 2007). These synthetic†¦show more content†¦This puts a strain on aquatic life such as mollusks, coral, and plankton, which rely on a stable PH level to build their exoskeletons (Simon et al., 2007). The increase in climate temperatures also contributes to erratic weather patterns across globe. The Natural Resources Defense Council (n.d.) has reported that due to the warming of the oceans there has been an increase in category 4 and 5 hurricanes over the last 35 years. In 2005 there were 27 named storms, which was the most active season on record (NRDC, n.d.). This was also the year that hurricane Katrina made landfall in New Orleans making it the deadliest and costliest hurricane in recorded history (NDRC, n.d.). There has also been a higher level of droughts most notably between 1999 and 2002, which was the most extensive in the last 40 years (NRDC, n.d.). The NRDC (n.d.) also claims that global warming may have been the reason for the increased frequency in droughts over the last 40 years. With droughts there can usually be expected wildfires, and in 2006 record levels were set in the amount of fires reported and acreage lost at nearly10 million acres (NRDC n.d.). In stark contrast global warming also contributes to increa sed rainfall totals in some areas. Standardized testing was introduced by French psychologist Alfred Binet in 1905. The test originated because Binet was commissioned by the French government to create a tool to identify which students needed remedial studies. Over time, the standardized tests evolved into multiple different tests in multiple subjects for varying age groups of students. The tests were initially seen as a way to test a large sum of people with the same general questions to see an individual’s knowledge. Some people still view the tests in a positive way, but with new studies and information on the tests have made people question the test’s effect. Having every single class be taught the same throughout the school day would not only be boring, but would decrease student’s attention span.
